Alpe d’Huez: a key stage of the 2026 Tour de France
This summer, there are three key dates to note for the 2026 Tour de France’s visit to Alpe d’Huez. The first is Sunday 19 July, a few days before the first Tour riders reach the finish.
However, this day is reserved for amateur cyclists who wish to test themselves on the same roads as the professionals. It’s also an opportunity for you to show your support for these deserving athletes on a legendary stage.
Then, we’ll officially see you on Friday 24 July at Alpe d’Huez, specifically at the 21 numbered bends, as this is an extraordinary sporting challenge! The following day, the athletes will set off from Bourg-d’Oisans to reach Alpe d’Huez once more, before the Tour de France’s final finish in Paris.

The reason the 21 bends of the Alpe d’Huez are so legendary is that they have all the ingredients of a great Tour de France stage, namely: a gruelling climb (over 1,000 m of elevation gain), breathtaking alpine scenery and a unique, lively atmosphere.
If you’d like to witness this iconic Tour de France climb in person, we’d advise you to book well in advance, particularly when it comes to your holiday accommodation.

The reason it’s recommended to stay locally during the event is that the roads will be closed for the whole weekend. The ski lifts, however, will remain open, making it easier for you to reach the Tour’s stages at Alpe d’Huez from your holiday accommodation.
