On our official Alpe d’Huez marketplace, you can book a range of sporting, recreational and relaxing activities to liven up your stay in the mountains. Among the dozens of options available to you throughout the summer, discover the surrounding countryside in a new way by signing up for a via ferrata session.

This summer activity, organised by the Alpe d’Huez Guides’ Office, takes place in the heart of the Sarenne Gorges and offers you a spectacular view of the surrounding valleys and peaks. Age requirements, prices, bookings… Find out everything you need to know about this via ferrata!

What level of fitness is required to tackle the Alpe d’Huez via ferrata?

To take part in a via ferrata session at Alpe d’Huez, you must be aged 12 or over, be at least 1.30 m tall and be in good physical condition. You do not need to have done a via ferrata before to book this activity, as it is supervised by qualified instructors.

It is actually particularly recommended for beginners and families, as it is generally very accessible (low elevation gain, etc.). In fact, it often takes just a half-hour walk from the car park to reach the starting point, whilst the via ferrata route itself usually takes two or three hours to complete.

Do make sure you bring your own kit, namely sportswear, walking boots or trainers, a windbreaker or fleece, and a small rucksack (snacks, sun cream, water, etc.). The organisers will, for their part, provide all the technical equipment, such as a harness, carabiners and a helmet, to ensure maximum safety.
