A Major Chess Event in Alpe d’Huez
From Monday 24 to Saturday 29 August 2026, Alpe d’Huez will host the first edition of the International Chess Open, organised by L’Échiquier Grenoblois. This high-profile event will bring together players from France and around the world, in an exceptional mountain setting combining sport, strategy and fresh alpine air.
Open to both amateur and titled players, this FFE-rated tournament promises to be a key highlight of the late summer season, blending high-level competition with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere in the heart of the Oisans mountain range.
🏆 An Official Tournament Open to All
- Time control: 40 moves in 1h30, then 30 minutes with a 30-second increment per move
- Guaranteed prize fund: €6,000 minimum
- Arbiters: Claire Pernoud, Elite arbiter level 2 et Thierry Delelis-Fanien, Elite arbiter level 1
Titled players WIM, IM, WGM and GM benefit from free registration, highlighting the international ambition and sporting quality of the event.
